Khadija Ismayilova released!

RFE/RL contributor Khadija Ismayilova has been constantly harassed for her continued efforts to deliver news about corruption. She would continue her brave work even with mounting pressure to stop.March, 2012 unsigned letters were sent to Khadija with images from a camera planted in her bedroom warning “behave”.

In February 2014, Azeri judicial authorities summoned Khadija for questioning on suspicion of leaking state secrets to the United States. Despite the harassment she world continued her work and would be arrested on December 5th, 2014.

Khadija is one of many that have been detained and punished for delivering the truth to the people. Working with RFE/RL on a regular basis, having one of our own detained definitely stirs up personal feelings about freedom of press.

Khadija’s birthday is May 27th. When I heard the great news this morning, I can only imagine that this birthday will be unlike any other.
